Policies and Procedures

Keeping Our Train on the Tracks
In order to get the most educational time out of every minute, our class will follow a consistent schedule .  Part of our schedule with include a meeting at the beginning and the end of the day in our community circle.
Morning Meeting:
  • Attendance Email
  • Discussion of the Schedule/Calendar time
  • Special Announcements
Day End:
  • Daily Highlights
  • Appreciation Circle
  • Line up
Daily Schedule:
Our day will include the following blocks:
Literacy Block (Writing)
Snack/Recess
Literacy Block Continued (Reading)
Lunch and Recess
Math Workshop
PE/Music/Library
Phonics
Wrap up/Read Aloud

Attention Signals:
To get all of the kiddos attention quickly, I will be using several signals such as...
  • Chimes
  • Rhythm Clapping
  • Bell
  • "May I have your attention please?" Response: "Yeeeees"
Pencils:
All pencils will be community property.  I will provide groups with sharpened pencils at the beginning of each day.  Students will turn in dull pencils to be sharpened.

Restrooms and Drinking Fountain:
When students need to use the restroom or get a drink of water, they will take the sign hanging next to the location, put it on their table spot, use the location, and return the sign.  This procedure will limit the amount of traffic to the restroom and water fountain.  It will also help me keep all students accounted for.
***With current restrictions, this procedure will not include the sign exchanges.  Students are encouraged to bring water bottles and avoid the water fountain when at all possible to avoid spread.

Materials:
There are a few materials that will take special management and team work.  These materials include:
  • Math Manipulatives:  I will divide these up and disperse them to each team.
  • Library Books:  Students will learn how to find books in our classroom library.  We will have to work together to keep the library organized!
  • Paints, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Erasers, etc:  I will keep these materials in labeled boxes and drawers (some items will have students names written on them), and I will pass them out when needed.

Classroom Rules:
During the first week of school, we will be talking a lot about rules and expectations.  By the end of the week, we will illustrate and label Standard Operating Procedures that will help student to understand their expectations for the day.
*If students are having trouble following the established rules and expectations, they will be given two warnings before owing recess time or receiving another logical consequence.  If it continues, I will contact home.
